Panus neostrigosus has a densely hairy fan to funnel-shaped brownish cap often with pinkish-purple tinges and decurrent white gills on an off center stalk. A saprotrophic fungus, it grows from recently dead hardwoods from spring through fall. Edible, although somewhat bitter tasting.
