Russula mariae 03510

Russula mariae has a variably colored cap that typically ranges between pink to violet with other colors such as yellow or buff. The cap is initially convex becoming plane with a slight depression. It is very pruinose-velvety in texture and bears a striated margin when fully expanded. The flesh is white. The gills are white to cream and sometimes sport colored edges. The spores are pale yellow-cream. The stipe is equal or tappered at the base and is flushed with the color of the cap. Russula mariae can be found from summer to early autumn under hardwoods, especially oaks. It is a good edible.
