Hydnum umbilicatum (3 photos and Description)

Hydnum repandum0672

Hydnum umbilicatum, like its ‘sister’ Hydnum repandum, has spines beneath it cap. However, Hydnum umbilcatum, has a small, almost circular cap with a depressed center (which reminds some of us of a belly button). Hydnum repandum’s caps are relatively large and asymmetrical, and their stems are relatively short, especially compared with the stems of Hydnum umbilicatum.
