Marasmus rotula, the ‘Pin Wheel Mushroom’, grows as a saprotrophic fungus from hardwood litter such as sticks and logs. It is white and has a depressed, but flat darker central disc and subdistant gills attached to a collar around the dark, wiry stem that is usually paler at the apex. It can be found from spring through fall. Lookalike Marasmius capillaris grows from leaf litter.
