Suillus spraguei (Suillus pictus) "Painted Suillus" Dry, scaly, red ,convex cap with pale backgrnd. Yellow stem somewhat club-shaped, also with red scales. Partial veil leaves cobwebby ring on upper stem. Yellow flesh tinges pink on exposure to air. Olive-brown spore print. Mychorrizal with pine. Edible.
Texture is soft and glutinous and tastes like gelatin or ‘snails’. Solution, add herbs, lots of salt and pepper and fry in butter until crispy.
