Hapalolilus nidulans

This is a white rotting polypore that is saprotrophic on dead hardwood logs, branches and ticks. It has a dry dull orange-rust hairy upper surface and is sometimes kidney shaped. Its pores are also dull orange-rust to cinnamon and angular. It fruits from spring through autumn as an annual. KOH on the cap turns the cap flesh vivid purple. It is highly toxic if eaten, and may even be the only known toxic polypore.
