Tremella mesenterica grows on surface of barked dead hardwoods. It is a 'Witches Butter’ that parasitizes the mycelium of the crust fungus, Peniophora. The similar-looking Dacrymyces chrysospermus (Dacrymyces palmatus) grows on debarked conifers and has a white mycelial attachment point. Tremella mesenterica is an edible fungus.
