Tricholomopsis decora is found on dead conifer wood. The cap is a fairly bright egg-yellow shade and it is covered in scales. Those on the depressed disc in the center of the cap are dark brown. The scales become pale near the cap edge. The margin is enrolled when young. The gills are pale yellow and in assorted lengths. The smooth stem becomes hollow as the fruiting body matures.
