Collybia tuberosa grows from leaves on the forest floor. Beneath them can be found tiny red-brown elliptically-shaped sclerotia. They draw energy from the sclerotia to grow and sporulate. Collybiaa tuberosa grows on decaying fungi and often appears appears following rain in summer and fall.
