Melanoleuca cognata (Fr.) Konrad & Maubl. 1930

Fairly large mushroom with brown cap and stem and whitish closely-spaced gills. White spores. Appears in spring as well as later in the year. It breaks down dead orgsnic matter. The names we use for this genus in North America are European and probably consist of different species.
