Saprotrophic brown rotter on hardwoods. Tiered orange
cap with sulphur
yellow margin and tube-like pores. Grows in summer and autumn higher up on dead
standing and downed hardwoods than Laetiporus cincinnatus,
(which fruits at the base of host trees). Favors oak. Edible when young. It is in the Fomitopsidaceae family of the Polyporales.
