1. Using your software, import your photos ASAP to your hard drive if you have room for them and for editing as well, or to an external drive.

2. Delete the worst. This is the most important part of editing!  I typically delete between 1/3 and ½ on a first look.  This is in keeping with what most professional photographers do.  Unless you have a poor photo of a mushroom youve never seen before, get rid of it.

3. Label the folder by Date and by Location taken.

4. Name the mushroom in each photo by genus before the number (do not delete the photos number!)  If you cant name the mushroom to genus, name it to general group (i.e. polypore, stereum, gilled, toothed - so it will be easy to find doing a Search).1.  Copy folder and its contents and paste to a MUSHROOM PHOTOS file to at least one external hard drive. (You should have all your photos on at least two separate drives.  They are cheap and worth every penny.)

2.  Only then should you delete the images from card.

3.  Return the card to your camera and format it to remove all files.
