Pleurotus pulmonarius is somewhat smaller and thinner fruiting bodies than cooler weather fruiting of Pleurotus ostreatus. Slightly greasy with marginal striate lines. White to pale tan, but no brown. Has more of a stem. Appears in summer when weather is warmer through fall and early winter. Medicinal properties: anti-tumor, anti-bacterial, possible diabetes treatment. Grows on hardwoods in eastern NA. Saprotrophic on dead wood causing white rot. Visited by fungus flies.
