Leccinum rugosiceps, the "wrinkled-headed Leccinum”, is ectomycorrhizal with oaks. It has a pale orange-yellow-fulvus cap that becomes more wrinkled, paler and sometimes cracked as it expands, small pale yellow pores and a yellowish stipe covered in small brown scabers that become darker brown. The white to light yellowish flesh becomes pinkish and then gray when cut. Spore color is olive-brown. Some field guides describe Leccinum rugosiceps as delicious when cooked, others aren’t sufficiently impressed to repeat the experience.
