Amanita jacksonii

Amanita jacksonii, the "American Caesars mushroom”  has an orange-red, smooth, shiny cap with a deeply lined margin. Gills are broad, close, yellow, and free or nearly so.  Ring from partial veil on stalk. Stipe yellowish smooth to shaggy; spongy becoming hollow. Universal white veil surrounds sac-like cup. White spore print. Found in dry oak and pine woods. May be confused with AMANITA MUSCARIA, and other orange to red Amanitas. Unlike them, its cap is smooth, gills are yellow (not white), and it has a sac-like cup.
