Boletus speciosus


Boletus speciosus is among the first bolete species to appear. It has a reddish-brown cap, yellow flesh, small bright yellow pores that instantly stain dark blue. Its stalk is yellow on upper section with a fine reticulum and reddish toward the base.  It grows in mixed woods, especially under hemlock. It is edible, but is usually full of insect larvae.

It is in the Boletaceae family of the Boletales order.
