Craterellus fallax A.H. Smith ‘Horn of Plenty’, ‘Black Trumpet’                         

Mycorrhizal with trees. Often found in moss – summer and fall.

Dark gray to black and shaped like a funnel with outwardly curved edge. Spore bearing surface is smooth to slightly wrinkled. Thin flesh, hollow interior. It is in the Hydnaceae family of the Cantharellales order.

Harvest using a knife to keep them clean. Slice and sauté.

Also good after drying.
