Gymnopus spongiosus (Berk. & M.A. Curtis)  Halling 1996

Reddish-brown cap becoming pale pinkish-buff to tan. Close gills. Reddish-brown hairy stipe. Found in late summer and fall on hardwood and conifer litter. The similar Gymnopus semihirtipes appears in spring and early summer. It is in the Omphalotaceae family of the Agaricales order.
