This white jelly fungus can be found fruiting on dead hardwood branches where it parasitizes black flask fungi in the genus Annulohypoxylon (an ascomycete). It tends to be found more in subtropical and tropical areas than in more temperate regions. It is a commonly used fungus in Chinese cuisine, where it is known as the ‘Silver Ear Fungus’. It is a widely cultivated fungus used in sweet and savory dishes, as well as in various popular Asian beauty products.
