Lactarius uvidus (Fries) Fries 

 Lactarius uvidus has a viscid grayish-lavender cap with a depressed center that ages brownish. There is a slight zonation near the margin.  Gills are white to cream colored and are forked at the junction with the paler stem, which has scrobiculations (pot holes). Stipe becomes hollow with age. Latex is watery white and turns violet on exposure to air, STAINS PURPLE. It is found under conifers and in damp mixed woods.  Slightly bitter-acrid taste. Inedible.
