Gymnopilus liquiritiaegrows in clusters on conifer wood. Like other species of gymnopilus, it is bitter-tasting. However, unlike Gymnopilus junonius and Gymnopiulus luteus, it is not hallucinagenic. Also, unlike them, it does not have a partial veil or ring. Its spores are rust-brown.
