Steccherinum ochraceum is decomposer of dead hardwood. It is a leathery toothed (hydnoid) crust fungus that sometimes develops zoned, hairy small caps having a white margin. The undersurface consists of closely packed short spines that are initially orange in color but may change to yellow-brown with age. Commonly found on dead branches and sticks of oaks in late spring and early summer.
